Hey, we're Gertie - and we take your privacy seriously (even if we don't take much else seriously). This policy explains what info we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it.

By shopping or browsing at gertie.com.au, you're saying you've read this and you're cool with it.

WHAT WE COLLECT

When you shop, sign up, or interact with us, we collect:

  • Contact info - name, email, phone, shipping/billing address
  • Order details - what you bought, how much you paid, delivery info
  • Payment info - handled securely by Shopify Payments and other payment providers (we never see your full card details)
  • Account info - login email, password (encrypted), order history
  • Communication - emails, SMS, DMs, customer service chats
  • Browsing data - pages viewed, clicks, IP address, device, browser, location (via cookies and analytics)
  • Marketing preferences - what you've opted in or out of

HOW WE USE IT

  • Process and ship your order
  • Send order confirmations, shipping updates, and receipts
  • Provide customer service
  • Send marketing emails or SMS (only if you opted in - and you can unsubscribe anytime)
  • Improve our website, products, and your shopping experience
  • Detect fraud and keep our store secure
  • Meet our legal and tax obligations

WHO WE SHARE IT WITH

We don't sell your data. Full stop. We share it only with trusted providers who help us run the business:

  • Shopify - our ecommerce platform (hosting, checkout, customer accounts)
  • Payment processors - Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, PayPal, Afterpay, Apple Pay, Google Pay
  • Shipping carriers - Auspost, Aramex, etc.
  • Email/SMS marketing - Klaviyo
  • Analytics - Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, Meta Pixel, Pinterest, TikTok (to understand site usage and run ads)
  • Reviews & loyalty - Okendo, Smile.io
  • Affiliate & customer apps - GOAFFPRO and other Shopify apps we've connected
  • Legal authorities - only if required by law

OVERSEAS DISCLOSURE

Some of these providers are based overseas (mostly the US and EU). When your data is sent overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure it's handled to a standard similar to the Australian Privacy Principles.

COOKIES & TRACKING

Our site uses cookies and similar tech to remember your preferences, keep you logged in, analyse traffic, and serve you relevant ads. You can disable cookies in your browser, but parts of the site may stop working if you do.

MARKETING

If you opt in, we'll send you emails or SMS about new candles, sales, and Burn Club perks. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can reply STOP to any SMS.

YOUR RIGHTS

Under Australian privacy law, you have the right to:

  • Correct anything that's wrong
  • Delete your data (subject to legal obligations like tax records)

We use industry-standard security (SSL, encryption, secure payment processing) to protect your info. No system is 100% bulletproof, but we do our best.

HOW LONG WE KEEP YOUR INFO

We keep your personal info only as long as we need it - for orders, customer service, accounting, and legal obligations (typically 7 years for tax records).

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Our products are for grown-ups. We don't knowingly collect info from anyone under 16. If we find out we have, we'll delete it.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top will tell you when. Big changes will be flagged via email or on the site.
